Horseback Riding
Most campers can’t wait ‘til their riding class, and at Keystone we ride every day! There is no extra charge to campers for our daily riding. Keystone’s stable is occupied with horses especially suited for beginner, intermediate, and advanced riders. We ride forward seat (English) at Keystone and we know that you’ll love to learn to post at a trot, canter, and jump your horse. Schooling helmets are furnished by the camp. For those of you that already own your own helmet, we invite you to bring it to camp with you, provided that it is
ASTM, SEI certified. Keystone is one of the few camps that owns most of its own horses. Likely, your favorite horse will be here year after year waiting for you.
Keystone’s riding instructors are selected by their experience in teaching forward seat riding. Classes are strictly structured to your ability. In order to gain consistency in your instruction, you will stay with the same instructor until you have mastered that particular level in riding. Those of you who have not ridden much before will join the “hilltopper” class. In this class you will gain confidence in your ability to control your mount. Once you have mastered one level of riding, you will move on to a more advanced level.
Jumping, under the method we teach, comes quite easily for our more advanced riders. You will
be surprised at how much you can accomplish in the few weeks you will be at Keystone.
We have four riding rings, six miles of trails, a hunt course, and several large pastures, all for riding. Our girls love to go on trail rides and work out on our jumping courses. The classes are quite small
so you get lots of attention. Each class is divided into groups so that just a few girls are working out with each instructor. This way you learn fast, and in no time at all, you can be going on the trails.
