Swimming and Canoeing
Swimming
Time to go up to the swimming lake where the counselors will be qualified American Red Cross Instructors. You will learn different strokes, diving, synchronized swimming, and if you’re old enough, you may take your basic rescue or advanced lifesaving tests. Then every day at noon, we offer an all-camp Free Swim!
You can dive off the diving board, ride on the inner tubes and slide down the water slide.
Our swimming lake has cement on three sides and looks like a pool. Thanks to our pumping system the temperature of the water is between 70 and 80 degrees – the temperature recommended for swimming by the American Red Cross.
Canoeing
Canoeing classes are offered on a larger second lake here on the property. You will learn how to handle a canoe by using various paddle strokes and also how to get back into your boat should you find yourself out of it!
You might also have a chance to go on a canoe trip down one of the nearby rivers. Your first
river trip will be down the French Broad River. As you progress we’ll go down more difficult rivers. Whitewater, here we come!
