Positions

Our staff members serve as both Cabin Counselors and Activity Instructors. Two counselors live together in a cabin with eight campers who are in the same grade in school. Cabin Counselors are responsible for getting their campers ready for the day, and are there to greet them in the evening after the day's activities are over.

Rock Climbing

Description:

There are 3 or 4 positions available for Rock Climbing Instructors at Keystone, which is part of the Adventure Program. Rock Climbing is offered 6 or 7 activity periods a day and is one of our most popular activities among campers. Keystone Camp has a 32-foot wall with four panels, each gradually becoming more difficult and challenging for our climbers. At least once or twice a week, we head into Pisgah National Forest and climb a real rock face, which challenges our campers even more. It is an awesome experience for both campers and counselors alike!

Qualifications:

Applicants must be at least 19 years of age or have finished one year of college. All climbing instructors should be able to document experience as a climber in a variety of conditions and at a level higher than that being taught at Keystone. You should be able to demonstrate all of the climbing, teaching, and supervision skills necessary to safely conduct climbing activities OR be in the process of being trained and supervised by the Head of Climbing. You will assist campers in learning appropriate climbing skills and techniques including the following: proper use and adjustment of harnesses and helmets, knot tying, safety calls, wall climbing, and actual rock climbing. Instructors will be responsible for running classes at the climbing wall as well as leading a series of trips off the camp property to actual rock sites. Instructors are responsible for the proper use and care of all equipment.
